Remembering the Golden Age of Malay Cinema: P. Ramlee

Do you have fond memories of visiting Rex Theatre on a Sunday night and immersing yourself in the world of Malay cinema? Perhaps you recall being captivated by Maria Menado, bursting into laughter at P. Ramlee's antics, and feeling your heart swell with emotion while listening to the music of Zubir Said. During the late-1940s to 1970s, Singaporeans revelled in an unprecedented wave of Malay-language cinema, brought to life by the talented filmmakers, actors, and composers of Malay Film Productions and Cathay-Keris. This illustrious period is often referred to as the "Golden Age of Malay Cinema". This era holds a treasure trove of stories and memories that deserve to be cherished and remembered. Whether you possess photos, posters, annotated music scores, TV or radio shows, your contributions can help us weave together a comprehensive narrative of this pivotal age in our cinematic history. This collective effort ensures that future generations can appreciate and learn about this remarkable time in Singapore. We invite you to join us in preserving the legacy of Malay cinema in Singapore!
